Well… I’m back from Chicago… and I’m five pounds heavier!  Now those of you that know me, know that this is the time that I fold up and quit.  So… that’s it.  It was a good run, but I failed to lose the weight.  Such is life.  Stick a fork in me (and a frickin’ bowl of pasta), I’m done!

… or not.  I figure this is the time the diet actually begins.  I’ve had a set back, and now I need to man up and carry on.  I thought I might give that a try this time.  Today is my daughter’s birthday, so we’ll call it a gift to her.  Instead of getting discouraged over a minor setback, I’ll just dust myself off, and carry on (though I’m sure there will be cake tonight… that’s cake… not CAKE).

This will be something new for me…

So, five pounds.  Did I pig out when I hit Chicago?  Oddly enough, no.  What I did do was walk… I walked a LOT 6-12 miles a day.  The city is like that.  You either sit in your room, or you get out and move.  So, if I did all of that walking, how did I gain the weight?  Simple.  I didn’t count calories.  Well, I did for the first couple days, but with all that walking, I reached a rather strange point.  I was sitting down to have lunch with my wife, and when it came time to order, my body simple said “No… you eat more, or you’re not getting up from this chair.”  No drama, no stress, just a very clear message that the 2k calories were not going to cut it.  I ended up eating a sandwich *and* a piece of pizza, and could have went on eating, but I couldn’t see pushing the calories any further.  For the rest of the week, I ate when I needed to, and didn’t eat when I didn’t.  I tried not to eat junk, and make healthy choices, but I certainly went over 2000 calories… and there was a lot of bread and break-like products… and one night, there was Coke.

So… five pounds.  Could have been worse, and I look forward to losing them again.  I will step back on the scale on Monday morning, and I will adjust the ticker as per usual (though it will be a move in the wrong direction).  C’est la guerre.

Now… Second star to the right, straight on till morning…
